SMC dewaters city roads

Incessant rains and snowfall caused water-logging in various areas of the summer capital. 

Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) pressed men and machinery to undertake dewatering. “All the 70 dewatering stations were functional,” said chief sanitation officer SMC Sofi Muhammad Akbar.

He said that SMC commissioner Riyaz Ahmad Wani had deployed additional 30 persons to different dewatering stations to assist concerned staff there. “He added that water logging had occurred at Regal Chowk and at few places. We pressed mobile machines and dewatered the roads,” Sofi 

SMC commissioner Riyaz Ahmad Wani monitored the dewatering process at SMC control room.  “We had chalked out strategy for dewatering and clear snow from city roads,” Wani informed. 

He added that all ward officers have been directed to remain alert and ensure dewatering and clearance of roads in case of snowfall.  SMC spokesperson Masrat Yusuf that SMC commissioner along with his team toured to different areas of Srinagar including Lal Chowk, TRC, Regal Chowk, LD, JVC, Sampora, Parimpora, Peerbagh, Humhama, Chanpora, Barthana Crossing and other places. 

She said that commissioner expressed satisfaction over work on ground on war footing to dewater these areas. “SMC is swiftly attending to the priority areas wherein dewatering has also been carried out particularly at the commercial hubs in and around Lal Chowk,” she said.

She added that on the directions of commissioner SMC water-suckers machines were put in service to dewater Hari Singh High Street and other waterlogged areas.

“The Commissioner has issued directions to the staff to ensure that pedestrian walkways and waterlogged streets are cleared.” she added.
