APHC (M) today hit out at government for turning entire Downtown into a “military fortress” terming it as a “worst form of repression and dictatorship.”

The spokesman in a statement also decried disallowing the congregational prayers at historic Jamia Masjid on the fourth consecutive Friday.

“Confining the entire Downtown population to their homes and placing entire resistance leadership under house detention and lodging many others in police lock ups is the ill mindset and short sightedness of the ruling class.”

The spokesman said that Mirwaiz was scheduled to address a Friday gathering at Charar-e-Sharief and pay obeisance at the revered shrine of Hazrat Sheikhul Alam (RA) “but authorities placed him under house detention in the wee hours.”

“Confining Mirwaiz to his home every now and then clearly reflects the political vendetta of the government against him,” it said.

The spokesman also castigated the government for acting as “mute spectators” over the frequent attacks on the women folk and cutting their braids.

“Government has failed to curb braid cutting while on the other hand resistance leaders who raise voice against the brutal assault on women are caged in homes.

Not a single person has been nabbed by the police which within no time comes into action to foil peaceful protests and to arrest youth during search operations and other so called intelligence based operations. The government has failed on all front as its sole aim is to enjoy power,” it said.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson said hundreds of people staged protest for not allowing Mirwaiz to address Friday gathering at Charar-e- Sharief.
