J&K’s struggle in the ongoing Ranji trophy match against Goa continued as they ended third day’s play on 246 for the loss of seven wickets in reply to Goa’s first inning total of 468 at Goa Cricket Association Academy, Porvorim on Tuesday.

Goa starting their inning from the overnight total of 422 for the loss seven wickets went on to add another 46 runs to the total before declaring their inning on 468 for the loss nine wickets. Lakshay A Garg and Felix Alemao were the wickets to fall in Goa’s inning. Overnight centurion, Snehal Kauthankar remained unbeaten on 130 runs. Among others, Sumiran Amonkar scored 73, Amit Verma 71 and Sagun Kamat 57 scored for Goa.

For J&K Irfan Pathan and Umar Nazir took three wickets each while as Amir Aziz took two wickets. Importantly, despite bowling for more than two days, J&K bowlers failed to pick Goa’s 10 wickets as Goa declared on nine wickets.

In reply, it was another wavering performance from J&K batsmen. At the end of the third days’ play, J&K were reduced to 246 with seven wickets down, facing a mammoth first inning lead of 222 runs. Irfan Pathan was still in middle for J&K batting on 42 run knock joined by Amir Aziz who is batting on 22. From Goa side, Lakshay and Amogh Desai have taken two wickets each while as Krishna, Darshan Mital and Amulya Pandrekar took one wicket each.

After being in field for more than two days with Goa building their inning slowly and steadily, J&K started their reply with opener Ahmad Banday and Shubham Khajuria. Banday was the first wicket to fall in J&K’s chase, on the team score of 43. He was picked by Lakshay after having scored 25 runs. In the middle, Khajuria was joined by Ian Dev and the duo tried to stabilise J&K inning. They took the score to 117 runs in 34 overs. However, once Khajuria was trapped LBW by Amulya on the individual score of 53 runs, J&K kept losing wickets at regular intervals. On the very same score of 117, Ian Dev was third wicket to fall in J&K inning after making 37. Paras Sharma (22), Parvez Rasool (13), Shubham Pundir (16 ) and Fazil Rashid (7), all fell cheaply.

At the end of third day’s play, J&K were struggling on 246 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Irfan Pathan was looking in good touch having scored 42 off 68 that included five boundaries and one six. Amir Aziz at the other end is batting on 22 from 37.

J&K still trail Goa by 222 in first and there is likely chance of J&K conceding first inning lead. For Goa, it is first inning lead points they have been after from the first day, anything better than that would be bonus for them.

BRIEF SCORES:

Goa: 422/7 (Snehal 130*, Amonkar 73, Verma 71, Pathan 3-wkts, Nazir 3-wkts)

J&K: 246/7 ( Khajuria 53, Pathan 42*, Amogh Desai 2-wkts) trail by 222 runs.
