Kunzer Cricket Club lifts Gulmarg cricket tournament cup

Kunzer Cricket Club elected to bat first and scored 169 runs while their opponent was bundled for 76 runs in 20 overs.

Kunzer Cricket Club on Sunday won the Gulmarg cricket tournament here.

The final cricket match was played between Kunzer Cricket Club and Raiman Toppers.

Kunzer Cricket Club elected to bat first and scored 169 runs while their opponent was bundled for 76 runs in 20 overs.

The tournament was started in 2015 and was organised by the locals of the area. However the tournament continued upto semi finals only.

"Later we couldn't play its final in 2016 and the match was delayed till 2017," said one of the organisers.

After the completion of final match, 

Minister for horticulture Syed Basharat Bukhari was chief guest at the occasion while secretary school education Farooq Ahmad Shah was guest of honor.

Speaking at the occasion, Bukhari underlined the need to organise such sports activities regularly. "But it should not remain confined to only cricket but youth should take part in other categories of sports as well," he said.

He said the government is at forefront to provide facilities to the youth of state who show interest in sports.

In his address Farooq Ahmad Shah said school education department is giving its all efforts to expose students to different sports activities including cricket, football and golf as well.

"Besides improving academic standards in schools we are giving attention to sports activities in schools as well," he said.

Sub divisional magistrate Tangmarg and chief executive officer Gulmarg development authority, Muhammad Haneef Balki were also present at the occasion.
