Resident doctors association of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has announced continuation of its ongoing strike.

The strike has severely hit patient care at the institute and brought regular hospital work to a complete halt.

Patients who had been dated for surgeries and other procedures, and those presenting at the hospital for follow-ups and consultations at SKIMS had to face a harrowing time at SKIMS on Tuesday. The problem has been compounded by shortage of doctors due to strike by the resident doctors. As the RDA has extended the strike, the SKIMS administration expects a breakthrough as an order was issued to increase the pay of a section of residents.

Terming the order (SIMS 302 02/1331-47/18) issued on Monday by SKIMS as “divisive”, RDA SKIMS in a statement demanded “the same must be issued in the favor of PG-Residents at the earliest so that we resume our duties”.

RDA demanded that an emergency SKIMS governing body meet be held “to avoid any further crises and inconvenience to people”. RDA said that they had been forced to take the “extreme step of boycotting all work due do illogical and apathetic attitude of government”.
