The ‘new type primary health centre’ (NTPHC) at Khumina village of Hajin block in this district is awaiting completion of its building for 9 years, with the local residents facing difficulties for want of adequate health facility in the village.

“Even as the foundation stone of the NTPHC Khumina was laid in 2009, the hospital building is still incomplete,” locals told Greater Kashmir.

At present the hospital is operating from a rented Auqaf building. “The centre is located in just four rooms for last 60 years, which speaks volumes about the claims the health department regarding improving the healthcare in rural areas,” the locals said. 

A doctor in the hospital said they were facing lot of difficulties due to lack of adequate infrastructure.

Officials said the hospital was scheduled to come up at an estimated cost of Rs 93.92 lakh. “The work is being carried out by R&B department of Sumbal division.”

The locals said they had to take their patients either to CHC Sumbal or to some hospital in Srinagar for want of the facility in the home village.

Locals complained that the hospital even did not have the basic medicine available to it. 

According to a staffer, the hospital could not have the critical equipment and diagnostic machines because of the shortage of the space. 

The locals said more than 40,000 souls from eight villages namely Amchi Kundal, Baharabad, Markundal, Poshwara, Gundiboon, Vijpora, Khumina and Kathpora, on dependent on this facility. 

Assistant executive engineer, R&B division Sumbal, Gulzar Ahmad Mir said that “lack of funds has hampered the work on the building.”

However he assured that the building will be completed within a week or two.
