Demanding basic facilities such as sanitation, drinking water, laboratory, library, first aid center, hundreds of girl students of government girls higher secondary school Kargil today staged a massive protest here.

The students marched to Lal Chowk where they raised slogans against the local administration for their failure in delivering basic facilities to them.

Students were saying that on one hand right from top to bottom the slogan of “Beti Bachao Beti Padao” is being raised but there is no basic sanitation and other facilities available in Kargil.

They added that despite being the only girls higher secondary school in the entire district the principal is not paying attention on any single demand of the students.

Both police and civil administration tried to convince the students and appealed them to call off the demonstration but the protesters refused by saying that local executive councilor LAHDC Kargil for education should come and address their demands. The protest continued for two hours which hampered traffic in the town.

Later EC LAHDC Kargil Advocate Amir along with additional deputy commissioner Kacho Turab Shah assured the students that they will fullfil all the demands.

The students warned the authorities that if their issues are not redressed within a week they will again take to streets and also invite other social organizations.
