Three Lashkar militants killed in Kulgam gunfight identified

The gunfight began this morning as the forces launched a cordon and search operation in Khudwani after receiving specific intelligence input about the presence of militants in the area.

The three militants killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Khudwani area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district have been identified.

A police source said that all three militants belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit.

He identified the slain as as Abu Muaviya of Pakistan, Mudassar Ahmad Bhat of Katarsoo and Suhail Ahmad Dar of Redwani Kulgam.

Locals said that two houses were damaged by the forces during the gunfight that began at 5 am today. One of the houses belonged to a relative of slain militant Umar Rashid, they said.

Earlier, police had said that the militants were involved in abducting and killing a police constable Muhammad Saleem yesterday.

The search operation turned into a gun battle as the militants fired upon the search party of the forces who retaliated and in the ensuing gunfight, three militants were killed.
