Residents Banpora, Rather Mohalla, Shalpora, Beigh Mohalla in Dangerpora area of Sopore said the PHE department has failed to provide adequate water supply to these areas.

“Our area has been grappling with water shortage for more than a year now,” said Bashir Ahmad Rather, a resident of Rather Mohalla.

Sajad Ahmed, another resident of the same area, said that some areas of Sopore are getting “surplus water supply” while their area has been neglected.

A delegation of Shalpora residents said their women folk have to fetch “unclean water from a nearby stream”. They said they often bring water from other areas in their cars or hired vehicles.

However, a PHE official told Greater Kashmir on the condition of anonymity that they had to stop laying a new pipeline for augmenting water supply because of infighting among villagers.

“I request the locals to cooperate with us and we will assure them of adequate water supply,” he said.
