Army men on Wednesday resorted to aerial firing after a patrolling party was pelted with stones by youth in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.

A witness said that soldiers of 44 RR fired several rounds in the air after youth hurled rocks at them in Batamaran village.

The army soldiers resorted to aerial firing to disperse the youth.

A local said that army men left the area after detaining two youth. “The youth were later handed over to the police,” he said.

A senior police official told Greater Kashmir that no search operation was launched in the village.

An army patrolling vehicle was passing through the village when some youth attacked them with stones, he said.

“Army exercised restraint and fired few aerial rounds to disperse them. We have also detained two youth,” he added.
