The Jammu and Kashmir Police today sanctioned scholarships for the children of 24 police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

"Director General of Police S P Vaid has sanctioned scholarship for 38 wards of 24 deceased police personnel," a police spokesman said.

The spokesman did not give the period when the police personnel died.

He said a scholarship of Rs 1.13 lakh has been granted out of the Central Police Welfare Fund for the academic year 2016-17.

"The wards of the deceased police personnel include 17 students of primary and middle classes and 21 students of high school and under-graduate level," he added.

Each ward will get nearly Rs 3,000 per annum, he said. PTI
