Rulers responsible for chaotic situations in J&K: Geelani

Blaming rulers for “chaotic” and “explosive” situation in the state, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani today said, “The disputed region has been turned into a police state and a butcher house where people are killed mercilessly and detained on frivolous charges.”

“Ahead of the Indian Prime Minister’s scheduled visit, the authorities, while laying undue curbs on civilians, have turned state into a garrison,” Geelani, in a statement today, said.

“Indian politicians and their allies in the state are responsible for bloodshed. They and their forces are responsible for the current wave of killings, arrests and atrocities. The state authorities while trespassing all ethics don’t even consider the sanctity of the month of Ramadhan,” he said.

Condemning the detention of resistance leaders, Geelani said, “It is extremely unwise to deny political space and muzzle genuine voices. People and particularly the youth are being detained and there seems no let-up in killing and harassment of civilians in state. The innocent and peaceful people are being arrested, harassed and humiliated during crackdowns.”

Referring to the detention of Jamat-e-Islami leader  Bashir Ahmad Lone and  TeH district president, Muhammad Rafiq Owasi, Geelani said, “The authorities are pursuing RSS agenda. Both these leaders have been detained for their participations in funerals of slain professor Muhammad Rafi.”

Decrying the continued detention of Manzoor Ahmad Khan, Geelani said, “He is languishing in jail for the past 12 years and the authorities, despite that his mother ailing, are reluctant to release him.”

He strongly condemned the ‘unjustified’ detention of advocate Bashir Bukhari.

He demanded immediate shifting of all detainees, lodged in Tihar jail, including Shabir Ahmad Shah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saif ullah, Meraj u Din Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Shahid ul Islam, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Shahid Yusuf, Zahoor Watali, Muhammad Salim Wani.

“The detainees Masarat Alam Bhat, Dr Muhammad Qasim, Dr Muhammad Shafi Sharieti, Dr Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, Muzafar Ahmad Dar, Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, Ameer Hamza Shah, Mir Hafiz Ullah, Muhammad Yusuf Falahi, Abdul Gani Bhat, Muhammad Yusuf Lone, Muhammad Shaban Dar, Raies Ahmad Mir, Sarjan Barkati were arrested on fake and fabricated charges. Their detention is being prolonged on one pretext or the other and PSA slapped one after another,” he added.
