The government on Friday said that it has decided to impose restrictions in Srinagar areas on Saturday as a “precautionary measure.

Quoting deputy commissioner Srinagar Syed Abid Rasheed, an official spokesman said in a statement that complete restrictions under section 144 CrPC on movement of public and transport will be imposed 

within the territorial jurisdiction of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, Safakadal and MR Gunj police stations on Saturday.

The joint resistance leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik have called for Valley-wide shutdown on Saturday against “ongoing genocide” of Kashmiri youth.

There will also be partial restrictions within the territorial jurisdiction of Maisuma and Kralkhud police stations as well, the spokesman said, adding that these restrictions shall not be applicable to government employees, universities, essential services like banks or those taking or invigilating examinations.

Meanwhile, the police placed chairman, Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, under house detention.

A source said that many middle-rung leaders of the Hurriyat Conference (G) were also detained.
