On protest for 26 consecutive days, the police today foiled a march by the NHM employees to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s Gupkar residence, here.

A witness said that hundreds of protesting NHM employees assembled at Pratap Park and then tried to march towards CM’s Gupkar residence.

“The protestors walking through Residency Road amid huge deployment of police including women cops, managed to reach Polo View where they were intercepted by the police,” the witness said.

“The police men pushed the protesting employees back without resorting to tear gas shelling or lathi charge.”

As the protesting employees refused to budge, police blocked the main road to prevent them from reaching the Chief Minister’s residence.

“The protesting employees including women then decided to sit on the road to register their protest,” said another witness.

“As the police was trying to push back the protesting employees, one of the employees identified as Manzoor Ahmed fell unconscious on the road. He was later shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment.”
