Militants on Sunday morning fired upon an army patrolling party in Shumriyal forests of Lolab in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

Reports said that shots were fired at a search party of army’s 28 RR in wee hours today.

SSP Kupwara, Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar said that the search party was fired upon by a group of militants in the forests. "A brief exchange of gunfire took place in the area," he was quoted as having said by GNS news agency.

The entire area is under cordon and searches are underway to trace out the militants, he said.

Reports said that additional reinforcements of army's 9 PARA have also rushed to the spot and joined the operation.
