At least six persons were injured after clashes erupted in Ajas area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Thursday between government forces and students rallying to demand punishment to the guilty in Kathua minor rape-and-murder.

The students boycotted their classes and held a massive protest demanding exemplary punishment to the culprits in horrific rape-and-murder of eight-year old Muslim nomadic girl in Kathua in January this year.

The students were holding placards, which read: “Hang killers and rapists” and “Shame on Indian judiciary”.

Reports said that the students soon clashed with the forces which used tear gas to break up the protest.

This triggered ding-dong battles between the two sides, in which at least five students and a police constable sustained minor injuries.

Constable Danish Ahmad was hit by a stone in his hand, said an official.

Reports said that five injured students were treated locally.
