Taking suo-moto cognisance of news report published in Greater Kashmir on December 6 titled “7 abandoned children in psychiatry hospital await their return home,” the State Human Rights Commission has issued notice to state chief secretary and commissioner secretary health and medical education department to submit report on the matter.

The commission in its order said, “The newspaper reveals that most of them (children) belong to other states of the country and are mentally sound, if they have been kept with other mentally sick patients, there is a possibility that their condition might deteriorate.”

The psychiatry hospital here had also sought the intervention of State Human Rights Commission in tracing the families of these abandoned children.
