Tributes paid to Hari Singh on his 124th birth anniversary

Several functions were organizations across the region and tributes were paid to late Maharaja Hari Singh on his 124th birth anniversary, here on Sunday.

A function in this regard was organised by Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) here at Dogra Hall in which a large number of people from all walks of life paid floral tributes to late Maharaja Hari Singh.

The president of the Sabha , Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak, who was dressed in traditional Dogra attire also paid floral tributes to the late Maharaja along with other members .

Speaking on the occasion, Charak said, “Maharaja Hari Singh was known for his bold personality, reformative approach and a forward looking strongly secular ruler.”

Singh also said , “It is a sad chapter in the history that even after Legislative Assembly passing the resolution, the suspended state cabinet has overlooked the popular public demand and declined the holiday request negating overwhelming public aspirations from the Jammu region and the pre-partition J&K people settled in various countries who have great regards for the reverenced Maharaja.”

The other speakers in their respective address highlighted the life and achievements of the great emperor.

 All members vowed to carry forward his teachings of secularism, gender equation, women education and above all justice.

Prominent among those who participated in the programme include Maj Gen G S Jamwal AVSM, Col Karan Singh Jamwal, Prem Sagar Gupta, Brig M S Jamwal, Col DR Virender K Sahi, Janak Khajuria, Maj Gen Sunita Kapoor, Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, S Kulbir Singh, Samar Dev Singh Charak, Amanat Ali Shah, Hakumat Singh, Chhankar Singh, Mangal Das Dogra, Yash Pal Gupta, J S Mangal, Tarun Uppal, Kamal Singh, Chatar Singh, Amrik Singh and Vishal Rana.

In another function, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) senior leadership and activists paid floral tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh on his 124th birth anniversary here at party headquarters. 

Speaking on the occasion, JKNPP chairman, Harsh Dev Singh demanded state holiday on the birth anniversary of Late Maharaja Hari Singh and recalled his contribution in modernizing the state governance by establishment of Praja Sabha in the princely states. He alleged that successive political parties in government duped the people of Jammu by not declaring holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja.

Among others who garlanded the portrait of Late Maharaja include  Bansi Lal Sharma, Jagdev Singh, Naresh Chib, Ravinder Jamwal, Shanker Singh Chib, Rakesh Gupta, Nirmal Kishore, Mithu Rajput, Bhanu Partap Singh ,Surinder Wahi and Naveen Bali.

In another function, tributs were paid to Late Maharaja at ABVP GHSS Muthi.

Speaking on the occasion  ABVP president Kulbir Singh threw light on the life of Late Maharaja and recalled the public welfare works done by  him .

Kulbir said Maharaja was a visionary person and made primary school education compulsory in the state.
