Security cranked up for Modi’s Saturday visit

Authorities have stepped up security arrangements in Jammu ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s one day visit to the city scheduled for Saturday.

Inspector general of police for Jammu province, SD Singh said all security arrangements have been put in place in Jammu district according to the protocol for the PM.

Reacting to reports of five militants having sneaked into Jammu region from Pakistan, Singh said steps to thwart their attempts have also been taken.

“A separate operation has also been launched to ensure that our personnel thwart all attempts of militants.”

Sources said drone cameras will be deployed around Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences-Jammu at Chattha, where the PM will address 6th convocation of the varsity. 

“Adequate deployment of police and paramilitary personnel has been made in and around the campus of SKUAST-Jammu,” said Vivek Gupta, senior superintendent of police for Jammu.

“Our personnel have also started carrying out frisking of vehicles entering the city from other districts particularly border areas, especially in view of reports of militants entering Jammu. A complete security grid is in place.”

From General Zorawar Singh Auditorium of the University of Jammu, Modi is likely to e-inaugurate Tarakote Marg road between Katra and Adhkuwari, and a material ropeway between Siar Dabri and Bhawan at Vaishno Devi shrine.

The PM will also lay foundation stone for 1000 MW Pakal Dul Hydropower and Jammu ring road from the varsity auditorium.
