The fresh twist in the sensational Rasana rape-and-murder case sees the court ordering constitution of a medical board to ascertain the real age of one of the seven accused . The defense lawyers through a petition last week had pleaded before the Pathankot court that accused number one be declared a juvenile. The case of the eighth accused ,being juvenile or not, is also pending before a court in Kathua. He is a close relative of the primary accused.

“The Pathankot district and sessions court has ordered for constitution of medical board comprising of different doctors for conducting age determination test (ossification test) of the accused,” said Ankur Sharma, one of the defense lawyers told Greater Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the cross-examination of the witness number one, out of the seventeen summoned by the Pathankot district and sessions court, could not be completed for the second day on Tuesday, sources informed. The first witness was cross-examined by the defense lawyers on Monday also.

The court proceedings started at 11 AM Tuesday morning and continued till 4:30 PM. The cross examination of first witness will continue on Wednesday. The state crime branch has mentioned 226 witnesses in the brutal rape-and-murder case, which evoked widespread and global condemnation.

The Supreme Court, over the plea filed by family of the victim, shifted the case from Kathua to nearby Pathankot court for free and fair trial. The apex court also ordered day to day in-camera hearing, which began in Pathankot court began on May 31, to ensure speedy justice to the victim.
