National Conference (NC) provincial president and MLA Nagrota, Devender Singh Rana, on Saturday sought separate hostels for boys and girls belonging to Gujjar and Bakerwal communities besides Scheduled Caste (SC) and Other Backward Communities (OBC) in Nagrota to enable them to pursue their higher and professional education.

Interacting with various deputations of the constituency, which called on him this morning, Rana said that need for such a facility is being felt more with the area turning out an educational hub.

He said that the recent opening of a degree college has necessitated such hostels as the students will be seeking admissions for higher learning.

The MLA Nagrota said that outreach of educational facilities to remote areas should be supplemented by boarding and lodging facilities for the students, which will enable them concentrate on their studies without the loss of time in traveling etc.

Rana urged the Governor Satya Pal Malik to have the proposal for such hostel facilities examined on immediate basis so that the benefit of the new college percolates down to the targeted segments of society.

“Lack of hostels may deprive many students from getting higher education,” Rana said and assured that the matter will be taken up at appropriate level.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Governor for approving a Degree College for Nagrota.

He said that the people of Nagrota are indebted to the Governor for conceding to the  request.

Rana also thanked the Advisor, the Chief Secretary and the senior officers of the Higher Education Department for conceding to the just demand of the constituency.

Later, a deputation of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil, led by Chief Executive Councilor, Feroz Khan, also called on Rana.
