80.02% polling in Kathua, 83.62% in Udhampur

According to District Panchayat Election Officer (DPEO) Kathua, RohitKhajuria, 80.02% polling was recorded during first phase of Panchayat polls in Kathua.

The Kathua district of Jammu province recorded 80.02% polling while as massive 83.62% turnout was reported in Udhampur district in the first phase of Panchayat polls held on Saturday.

Total 29 Panchayats, 17 of block Bani and 12 of block Duggan went to polls in Kathua district and 42 panchayats in four rural blocks of Udhampur-Panchairi, Mongri, Latti-Marothi and Dudu-Basantgarh-went to polls in Udhampur district.

According to District Panchayat Election Officer (DPEO) Kathua, RohitKhajuria, 80.02% polling was recorded during first phase of Panchayat polls in Kathua.

He said, in Bani, 15494 votes were polled (80.92%) whereas, 8785 (78.47%) votes were polled in Duggan, resulting in overall percentage of 80.02%.

A total of 518 candidates including 405 candidates for Panch wards and 113 for Sarpanchhalqas were in fray in two blocks of Kathua district. 38 panchs and 1 sarpanch had won unopposed.

Meanwhile, according to DDC Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar, 83.62% polling was recorded in the 42 rural panchayats of the district.

He said that in Panchari block, 14667 people (7654 male and 7013 female) cast their votes with overall percentage of 85.84%. In Mongri block, the DDC said that total 9536 people (5136 M and 4400 F) exercised their right of vote with a total voting percentage of 86.75%.

“Total 12058 people (6213 male and 5845 female) cast their votes in Latti-Marothi block in the first phase with an overall percentage of 83.49%,” said the DDC Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar.

He further said that in Dudu-Basantgarh block of the district, total 8309 people (4183 male and 4126 female) cast their votes with an overall polling percentage of 77.06%.

“Overall, 44570 people cast their votes in Udhampur district in the first phase with overall percentage of 83.62%,” he said.

As per the official, 162 candidates for 42 SarpanchHalqas and 779 for 332 Panch wards in Udhampur district were contesting the polls.
