The family members of Master Muhammad Ahsan Dar, founder commander of Hizb ul Mujahideen militant outfit, on Monday said that he is missing since March 21. However, the police refuted, saying Dar has been traced in Jammu.

A family member of Dar said that they talked to him on March 21 on the phone. “Since then his phone is switched off,” he said.

He said that his uncle mostly stayed in Srinagar. “We called him to ask about spraying of pesticides on trees in his orchard on March 21. Since then there has been no contact with him. His phone is also powered off,” he said.

However, SSP Baramulla Imtiyaz Hussain said that Dar has been traced. “He is in Jammu,” he said.

A resident of Seur in Pattan, Dar was one of pioneers of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Dar was a teacher in a government school before picking up arms. He is said to have crossed the Line of Control for the first time in 1984.

He crossed the LoC again in 1989 and returned to found the Hizb ul Mujahideen.
