Major services world over have been digitised long back. Gone is the era of dusty tomes of official files. Ever since computers made an arrival, the human transactions have found a better and swift conduit. Banking, travel, commerce, medicine, engineering, and even gossip; everything stands digitised. The effects of this revolution have reached the far off crevices of the third world also. It's because of this revolution that governance has improved to a large extent. In our state many a service have been digitised and this has brought lots of ease to a common man. The CM of this state e-inaugurating Passport Seva Kendra at Anantnag is an opportune moment to remind the government officials about the current status of the process of digitisation in this state. Though the ambit of digitisation has been extended to cover many services, still much remains to be done. From admission in private schools, to exams in universities, there are certain gaps that need to be filled. Take the example of re-evaluation of exam papers by students in the length and breadth of this valley. Can't the IT revolution be of any use here. Similarly, the status of files in different departments is another area that demands attention. People travel long distances, and spend good many months in pursuing their simple cases in various offices. If this data is put on the digital plate-form, people can be saved from this tortuous drill of visiting offices just to know the status of a file. Another such pressing area is the revenue records. It goes without saying that this would be a revolutionary step in the bureaucratic history of this state if all the land records are digitised. It would also place a check on frauds that happen in this realm of governance. The up shot of the matter is that the process of digitisation must be hastened. That is something akin to freedom for the people who are crushed under the burden of officialdom.
