Replying to a point raised by legislator, Usman Abdul Majid in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister informed the House that the existing Tourism Development Authority is developing the areas of Manasbal and Wullar proportionately and there seems no need to create separate Development Authority for Wullar.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri today said that Wullar-Manasbal Development Authority since its inception has created infrastructure in the areas adjacent to the Wullar Lake involving a cost of Rs 8.08 crore including Tourist Parks, Bird watchers, Springs, Tourist Facilitation Centre, among others.

Replying to a point raised by legislator, Usman Abdul Majid in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister informed the House that the existing Tourism Development Authority is developing the areas of Manasbal and Wullar proportionately and there seems no need to create separate Development Authority for Wullar.

Giving further details, the Minister informed the House that in pursuance of Cabinet Decision No. 262-TSM of 2005 dated 27.12.2005, Wullar-Manasbal Tourism Development Authority has been created and is fully functional in order to develop both the areas of Wullar and Manasbal so that basic facilities are provided to the visiting tourists.

He further informed that in the year 2015, pursuant to Cabinet Decision No.156/23/2012 dated 30.08.2012, Forest Department vide government order No. 396-FST of 2012, dated 10.10.2012 created Wullar Conservation and Management Authority (WUCMA) with powers and functions to administer the affairs of Wullar lake and its associated marshes, to protect the lake ecosystem and catchments directly draining into it in accordance with Management Plan, to execute various multidimensional and multidisciplinary activities on its own or through outsourcing, to co-operate and collaborate with other institutions of the state and National/International Institutions for development of lake and to involve/engage a multidisciplinary research team for periodic evaluation of ecological and hydrological restoration interventions in the wetland ecosystem.
