Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) has demanded quick implementation of crop insurance in Kashmir division and reversal of input tax credit to 2014 flood affected traders.

A delegation of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by its president Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad held a meeting with the chief secretary BVR Subrahmanyam to draw his attention towards these issues of urgent nature which required immediate consideration of the state government.

The delegation, though, welcomed the prompt declaration of last week’s snowfall as a “Special Natural Calamity” and appreciated the urgency shown by the administration in initiating the process of assessment of losses. However, urged him to expedite the process of implementation of Crop Insurance Scheme to protect apple, saffron, cherry, walnut and other crops of Kashmir Valley from all climatic incidences including snow and hailstorms.

KCCI also took up the issue of reversal of input tax credit of dealers for the stocks damaged in the September, 2014 floods.

A spokesperson of the KCCI said CS assured the delegation that the issue would be taken up  in the State Administrative Council  in its next meeting for ‘sympathetic’ considered.

Sheikh Ashiq also requested Subrahmanyam to reschedule the dates of the amnesty scheme for the settlement of unresolved issues of the previous VAT regime.

The KCCI delegation also discussed a number of other issues faced by the business community with the CS.

Meanwhile a delegation of KCCI recently visited snow-affected areas of Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama districts to meet the orchardists who suffered losses due to snow fury to make the on-spot assessment of the damage. The delegation met representatives of various Fruit Associations and visited Fruit Mandi’s, Orchards and interacted with traders and farmers.
