The students of Government Post Graduate (PG)  Degree College Bhadarwah on Monday staged a strong protest demonstration and also  took out a protest rally to demand exemplary punishment for the culprits for sexually assaulting a minor girl at Rasana (Kathua).

The students, in large numbers, assembled near Government PG Degree College Bhadarwah, where they held a strong protest demonstration and later took out a protest rally.

Carrying placards with messages like "Justice for the victim”, "hang the culprits", “we stand by victim family”, “will not tolerate sabotage of justice” etc, the protesters marched through various bazaars while raising slogans against the government and seeking justice for the victim.

"We want the government to shift the case to special courts so that the justice prevails. We have full faith in the constitution and courts of the country, but we want justice to be given as soon as possible," said Almas Malik, a college student.

"The nation needs to join hands for a change, the law makers need to bring a change in the constitution, strict laws are needed so that such incidents do not happen again," a protesting student said.

"How can anyone protect the culprits of such heinous crime? What happened to the minor girl at Kathua is a crime against humanity. The whole country wants justice. Justice delayed is justice denied," said another student, Simra Malik.

Protesters also demanded transfer of case to Fast Track Court Doda.

Later, the students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School and Government Boys Higher Secondary School also joined the protest and demanded justice for the victim.

‘Conduct fair trial, hang the culprits’

Large number of students from various educational institutions including Government Degree College Doda today staged a strong protest Doda demanding justice for the eight year old minor girl who was sexually assaulted in village Rasana (Kathua).

Speaking on the occasion, the students said that aim of holding this protest is to draw attention of the government towards violence against women.

They demanded that a fair investigation be conducted into the Kathua case and the culprits of this heinous crime be hanged.

They should be given harsh punishment so that it acts as a deterrent, Zargar added.

No need for CBI probe: Civil society

The members of civil society from across Ramban have said that there is no need to conduct Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry over the Kathua sexual assault case.

The civil society members slammed those who are demanding CBI probe over the gruesome incident and said the challan against the accused persons has been presented in the court by Crime Branch and trial will be conducted there.

Why some Jammu based parties and leaders are raising questions over Police probe that was concluded and conducted in a fair and professional manner by the officers and officials of the Crime Branch?, the civil society members questioned.

They said that need of the hour is to take stern action against the people who are trying to pollute peaceful atmosphere of the state on one pretext or the other.
