Workshop on bone health of elderly held at B&J Hospital

A workshop on ‘Geriatric Orthopedics Update’ was organized jointly by Orthopedic Surgeon's Association of Kashmir (OSAK) in collaboration with the Geriatric Orthopedics Association of India (GOAI) at Bone and Joint Hospital here on Sunday.

OSAK in collaboration with the GOAI organized a one-day continuing medical education (CME) at B&J Hospital, Barzulla on 14 April, 2018. The topic of the CME was Geriatric Orthopedics Update. On the occasion, Padamshree Prof John Ebnezar, director GOAI, spoke on the development of geriatric orthopedics in India and the need for the care of the elderly people.

Head of department orthopedics Government Medical College Srinagar, Prof Manzoor Ahmed Halwai, while delivering the welcome address, impressed upon the importance of medical practitioners and surgeons having special focus on management of geriatric fractures. On the same note, organizing chairman of CME and organizing director GOAI Dr SS Amarnath laid emphasis on osteoporosis. He delivered a presentation on the future trends in management of osteoporosis.

Secretary OSAK, Dr Abdul Rashid Badoo, gave a presentation on the history and journey of geriatric orthopedics in Kashmir. On the occasion, eminent faculty members and doctors gave talks on various aspects of geriatric orthopedics in Kashmir. The lectures were followed by a live workshop on intra-articular visco supplementation technique in osteoarthritis of knee.

The CME was attended by a large number of doctors from GMC Srinagar, SKIMS Medical College and different hospitals of the valley. Principal GMC Srinagar, Prof Samia Rashid was the chief guest on the occasion. Organizing secretary of CME Dr Asif Nazir Baba delivered the vote of thanks.
