In a significant development, department of health has sealed 33 “unauthorised” clinics operating across several villages in Pattan tehsil. Curiously, it has found 9 teachers and an employee of PHE department operating most of these clinics.

A list of identified teachers and the PHE employee has been sent to the higher ups of the respective departments for immediate departmental action. The authorities of the health department have also found several incompetent persons, some of them just eight or ninth pass outs, operating these clinics.

“During the investigation it has been found that these quacks would often prescribe heavy dose of steroids which has high potential of damaging kidneys besides they would also prescribe heavy dose of antibiotics to poor patients,” said block medical officer Pattan, Dr Masrat.

He said the department of health has brought the matter to the notice of the higher ups of education department for immediate departmental action. “We have dispatched a list of identified teachers running these clinics illegally to the department of education vide letter no BMOP/985-90, Dated 9-8-2018 for immediate departmental action,” said Dr Masrat.

The action follows after a fake doctor was recently found “practising” at three different clinics across north Kashmir. The imposter who had been identified as Tariq Ahmad, resident of Chokar Pattan was later arrested by the Pattan Police.
