A delegation of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Monday called on the advisor to the Governor, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, and apprised him about various issues confronting the trade and industry in the state.

According to a KCCI statement, the delegation apprised the advisor about the  need to  change the negative  image  of Kashmir being  “created  by vested interests”.

“This   campaign has caused  tremendous losses  to the Tourism and other allied sectors of our State  economy. Several suggestions   were put forward for the revival of the tourism sector.”

The Chamber welcomed the prompt response   demonstrated   by the state administration     while responding to the   recent threats.

The chamber suggested various short and long term measures for prevention and management of disasters included floods. The chamber  expressed  its concern over the haphazard  manner  in which the dredging   had been carried out  and  the failure to increase  water absorption capacity  of  various  rivers, lakes as also the  sewerage system.

The KCCI   informed the Advisor that the chamber was planning to organise a seminar on   the condition of poultry industry of Kashmir and on its  challenges  and potential  in the first week of August 2018.

The advisor while   appreciating the inputs given by the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry assured the delegation that effective follow-up action would be initiated on these issues.

During their interaction with Advisor, the delegation suggested for holding of Kashmir Festivals in big cities like Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Kolkata to increase the footfall of tourists from these states.

The delegation sought intervention of the Advisor to allocate adequate funds out of the Prime Minister’s Special Package for J&K State for creation of assets in the tourism sector so that the carrying capacity of the state is enhanced to meet the flow of tourists during peak season.

KCCI delegation also requested the Advisor to approach the Union Ministry of Railways for running ‘Special Holiday Trains’, on the analogy of Rajasthan, so that the travellers crisscross the valley to enjoy its pristine beauty.
