Fire guts 5 structures, 2 men hospitalized

At least five structures were gutted while two men have been hospitalized in two separate fire breakouts in Kalakote and Nowshera on Tuesday.

As per official reports, a fire broke out in the cattle house of Barket Hussain, a resident of Thaliote in Kalakote, and the structure received major damage in the night hours. As the village is located far from the road, the fire tenders could not be put into action and the locals carried out the fire fighting operation. During the operation, two men had to be hospitalized due to suffocation. They have been identified as Noor Hussain, son of Gulzar Hussain, and Mohammed Hussain, son of Mohammed Yousif.

Police has started a probe to ascertain the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, in a major fire incident in the main market of Nowshera, four shops were reduced to ashes due to a fire breakout, which took place during the midnight hours.

As per the locals, the flames erupted from one shop and soon engulfed other shops. Locals and policemen rushed to the spot after which a fire fighting operation was launched, in which the army also assisted.

However, four shops were completely gutted. There were no reports of loss of human life or injury to anyone. The shops include a Tea stall owned by Raj Kumar, Tea Stall of Sham Lal, Provisional Store of Jog Raj and Provisional store of Rajeev Kumar.

However, alleging negligence on part of the Power Development department, the people said, “PDD is responsible for the fire as power fluctuations have increased, which leads to short circuits. Even the Fire and Emergency Services reached the spot in time, but took a lot of time to douse the flames.”

In another fire incident, an old plant nursery located close to Additional SP Office Nowshera caught fire, but the flames were brought under control soon with the help of fire tenders. There were no reports of injury or loss of human life.
